ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Dr. Arianna Dagnino has crossed many borders and five continents.

Born in Genoa, Italy, she studied in London, Moscow and Boston before entering international reporting, which led her to spend several years in Southern Africa and Australia, where she was awarded her PhD in Comparative Literature.

She has published several books –  in Italian and English – of fiction and nonfiction. Among them, The Afrikaner (Guernica Editions, Toronto, 2019), a novel and a screenplay set between South Africa, Namibia and the Island of Zanzibar, and Il Quintetto d'Istanbul (The Istanbul Quintet), an exploration of the writing life in transcultural mode; Seaborn Eyes is her first collection of poems.

Arianna teaches in the Italian Studies program at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver and  is the Cultural Events Coordinator of the Dante Alighieri Society of BC

She is a Member of the Writers' Union of Canada, the Literary Translators' Association of Canada and of the Society of Translators and Interpreters of BC (STIBC).

She has Canadian, Australian and Italian citizenship.

Arianna Dagnino è cresciuta in riva al mare, in Liguria; in seguito ha vissuto a Londra, Mosca, Boston e Johannesburg prima di trasferirsi sulle rive di un oceano ad Adelaide, in Sud Australia, dove ha conseguito un dottorato di ricerca in Letteratura comparata. Attualmente insegna all’Università della Columbia Britannica a Vancouver, su un'altra sponda oceanica. Come scrittrice bilingue (in italiano e in inglese) ha esplorato una molteplicità di generi letterari. Tra i suoi libri, il romanzo Le impronte di Zoe (Ensemble, Roma 2022), ispirato ai cinque anni trascorsi in Sudafrica come giornalista, Il quintetto d'Istanbul (Ensemble, Roma, 2021), racconto romanzato degli incontri con cinque scrittori incontrati sulla frontiera transculturale, e la raccolta di poesie Con occhi nati dal mare (Puntoacapo).
